Why Pick You?
Video of the Week – Gary Vaynerchuk
I had a blast putting on the Future of Real Estate Marketing conference here in Steamboat. More importantly I was really lucky to meet and interact with a lot of fun, forward thinking people during the day.
I also had a great experience working with Gary & his crew in getting this video together for the conference.
Give this video a spin. Gary calls it like he sees it and gives some no-nonsense advice to those in real estate.
Video of the Week – Ira Glass on “Good Taste”
There’s no doubt that over the past several years marketing has become a much more crucial skill for the successful real estate professional. Consumers armed with more education, more choice and less time demand better experiences and better information. You can’t fake it because we’re too smart and your competition is a click away.
But the “do-it-yourself” culture of the web encourages brokers to develop their own marketing assets. The trouble is that much of the DIY tools use a cookie-cutter template approach which often results in marketing materials that often don’t resonate with the target audience.
In this 5min video, longtime NPR journalist Ira Glass talks about looking for the gap between your good taste and what you actually produce.

Being self-critical is key to getting better.
Video of the Week – Dan Pink: Why Rewards Don’t Work
In a world where we are scrutinizing every aspect of our businesses, how often do we consider what truly motivates team members & employees?
In this short video Dan Pink brings some insight to the topic of compensation. Much of what we thought about what motivates & drives employees to perform well turns out to be wrong.
Watch this 18min video to find out why.

Video of the Week – The Future of Marketing
This video (and the whole collection) blew me away. Created by a French musician, the video is a mash-up of completely unrelated videos that have been carefully put together to create something completely new. Sure the music is good but it’s really the availability of all the layers needed to create these vids that’s so impressive. (The whole collection is here.)
At a minimum all these things had to line up: inexpensive video cameras, video codecs, hosting, searching, sharing, editing, the opportunity & desire for people to post the initial vids.
(Click here if you can’t see the video.)
So the question is, what’s available in your world that can be mashed-up to create something completely new and interesting to your audience? I bet if you spend some time exploring you’ll find something of value that’s worth sharing.
As so much of successful marketing moves away from canned, corporate-speak, towards authentic conversations it might make sense to look at opportunities and content that already exist.
Video of the Week – Attitude
When all seems doom & gloom, sometimes attitude is everything. In this stunning presentation Boston Philharmonic conductor, Ben Zander, unlocks the potential of a 15 year-old cellist and shows us how much better things can be by focusing on the possibilities instead of the negatives.
Video of the Week – Have a Drink on Me
Collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) are investment instruments that are partially to blame for the mortgage crisis. In this video Marketplace Senior Editor Paddy Hirsch presents a simplified and visual view of the problem at the whiteboard in a 6-minute presentation he calls Financial Crisis 101: CDOs explained.
